An immersive approach to developing deeper Motivational Interviewing skills, created by Andrew Siegal.

Meet the person, not the problem.

Practice the conversations that matter.

Build real-world Motivational Interviewing skills through immersive, story-driven interactions.

Practice Motivational Interviewing with multi-layered, dynamic characters navigating deep ambivalence.

In the MI Story-Driven Practice Studio, each conversation invites you into a person’s world, discovering what matters to them as they navigate genuine ambivalence about an important change.

Meet the Characters

Each character you meet in the MI Story-Driven Practice Studio has a life beyond their presenting issue—a history, relationships, values, hopes, contradictions, and reasons for feeling more than one way about change. You might meet Coach Ray, a celebrated coach confronting changes in his health and identity that he isn't ready to fully acknowledge; Dennis, a grieving therapist torn between wanting his adult son to move forward with his life and fearing that letting go could put his son's recovery at risk; or Julian, a cellist facing persistent pain and the possibility that continuing to play the instrument that has defined his life may come at a cost he isn't ready to accept. Each person is wrestling with deep ambivalence. Their stories unfold naturally through conversation, giving you the opportunity to move beyond the presenting issue, understand what is pulling them in different directions, and discover what matters most to the person in front of you.

Immersive interactions that feel real.

Fully developed characters, genuine ambivalence, and conversations that unfold in unexpected ways invite you to respond to the person, not simply follow a scenario.

Greater relational depth.

Slow down, stay curious, and practice being fully present as the conversation unfolds.

Supportive practice community.

Practice alongside fellow practitioners in a small, encouraging group where you can learn from one another, notice strengths, and grow together.

Personalized feedback.

Receive individualized, MITI-informed feedback within hours, creating another opportunity to notice what worked and what you want to keep developing.

I find these coaching scenarios so beneficial for learning and practicing MI. They’re very nuanced and have a lot of depth that help us drive towards uncovering values and what really matters to the client.”Katie — Founding Cohort Participant

“We are all learning that being fully present IS the practice. The MI skills kick in when they're needed, but the more we practice in this space, the more that seems to naturally happen simply through our presence. And it takes so much pressure off to have to ‘get it right.’”Lisa — Founding Cohort Participant

About the Studio

Created by Andrew Siegal, NBC-HWC | MI Facilitator

The MI Story-Driven Practice Studio began with an idea: What might happen if practitioners practiced MI with fully developed characters navigating meaningful dilemmas and genuine ambivalence?Drawing on more than two decades in television production, where he partnered with showrunners to help bring their stories to life, Andrew began testing this idea with practitioners from around the world. What practitioners began describing went beyond the realism of the characters. They found themselves becoming fully immersed in the conversations, discovering unexpected depth as the stories unfolded, and experiencing what could happen when they stopped trying to find the right MI response and became more fully present with the person in front of them.As the concept evolved, Andrew began collaborating with Susanne Thomas, MINT Member, who had developed an AI-assisted tool for providing MITI-informed analysis of MI conversations. Together, they adapted the feedback process for the Studio, giving practitioners an opportunity to reflect more deeply on what happened in the conversation, recognize their strengths, and identify what they might want to continue developing. The result is an immersive practice experience where practitioners can slow down, enter conversations with intention, receive meaningful feedback, and develop greater MI fluency and confidence in a supportive environment that celebrates strengths.

About Andrew

Andrew Siegal is a National Board-Certified Health and Well-Being Coach, Motivational Interviewing facilitator, and creator of the MI Story-Driven Practice Studio.
At the heart of Andrew’s work is a deep belief that people already possess many of the strengths, values, and inner resources they need to move toward the changes they want for their health, well-being, and lives. His role as a coach isn’t to provide the answers, but to create the kind of conversation that helps people hear their own.
That belief is what drew Andrew so deeply to Motivational Interviewing and has transformed the way he coaches. MI has taught him to slow down, listen with greater intention, remain curious, and trust that meaningful change is more likely to emerge when people have the space to explore what matters most to them and discover their own reasons for moving forward. There is a through-line to Andrew’s earlier career as well. Before becoming a coach, he spent more than two decades in television production, working closely with showrunners to understand the stories they wanted to tell and partnering with them to help bring their vision to life. Today, coaching begins in much the same place: gaining insight into another person’s vision and partnering with them as they find their own way of bringing it to life.Through Andrew Siegal Coaching and the MI Story-Driven Practice Studio, Andrew now brings together coaching, Motivational Interviewing, storytelling, and experiential learning—supporting people as they navigate meaningful change and helping practitioners become more present, curious, and intentional in the conversations they have with others.
